Shooting a male model

Shooting A Male Model

Nightmares of Shooting a Male Model

Shooting a male model, is a nightmare to me as I find it easier shooting a female model regarding the pose, costumes angles etc. Female models have unlimited posing and creative ideas than male model. Well I had an male model and I spent a week trying to think of a creative idea, to help me with my shoot.

My model (Navin) had a well built model and I want to make his shoot do justice to all his positive elements. Shooting in a gym had become so common and repetitive, so I was looking for a new idea and something as macho as the gym, where I can truly show his muscular body to his best advantage. Finally I struck gold , when I got an idea, “why not shoot him in a factory”. So on a Sunday I arranged to shoot him in a factory and you can see the results below they were simply marvelous.

Navin looked real macho with the factory grease over him, and playing with the tools in the factory. I am really please as I got the chance to get creative, without having to make my male model look sissy, and at the same time got a chance to show of his perfectly handsome muscular body, in a very natural way.

We enjoyed shooting this shoot and came away with lots of good images for Navins portfolio. Waiting to see him get lots of modelling assignments with his portfolio.

With male models care should be taking that we highlight his shoulders, which we can do by showing a good frontal of his shoulders, care should be taken to see both shoulders are in view and one is not hidden from view. Second we should see that his stance is masculine with no female like gestures.

Try to avoid gestures like delicate way of brushing hair , standing on hips etc what ever stance you make him take make sure its just masculine and bold. Use male props like tools , towels belts guns etc to help you get the mood. I hope I did succeed in shooting my male model, cos to tell you the truth the idea was very daunting and I did take a few shoots before this which I just happily assigned to my shredder , till I finally did get hang of making my male model look masculine in a masculine surrounding. Hope I succeeded and looking forward to all comments , criticisms, feedbacks and sugesstions for imporvements
